When you first visit Tinkers Creek on Sunday mornings you should find a group of people willing and able to point you in the right direction.
An information table is provided near the main entrance to help get you up to speed on the various ways you can connect. Usually this table is manned by Nancy Pease, our church secretary. If she doesn't know the answer to your questions, then she sure can find the right person who will.
There is also a table to register your child for our TinkerTown kids program. All children must be registered before dropping them off. Nursery care is also provided. You will be given a pager in case there is a need to call you when you are in the worship service, or an Adult Bible Fellowship.
There are classes for all ages at the 9:00 hour, and this is really where you and your children will be able to connect with other members of Tinkers Creek. And our worship service begins at 10:30.
When you get into the worship center you'll see it looks suspiciously like a gym/cafeteria. You might wonder how we do church in a gym. Well, it's not exactly easy. It's a lot of work to set everything up each week and the ambiance is certainly less than ideal. But on the other hand, can't authentic worship happen in the strangest of places? We think so. While it will be nice when we have our own space in a building, right now the Lord reminds us each week that worship starts in the heart, not in the carpet or color of the pew.
Our worship style is eclectic. We're not faddish with the new or married to the past. We like hymns, but we worship with new music too. We're mostly acoustic, not very "band" driven. Simple. In worship, often less is more. We try to look at lyrics and meaning before style.
We preach through the Bible. On any given morning you might find us in Jeremiah 23 or Judges 7 or John 5. We don't do topics very often, preferring to let the book itself generate the topics. We don't apologize for the Bible or tack it onto the end. We try to listen to the word of God and let it nudge us, sometimes drag us, in the right direction. In the end, none of us can offer more than an opinion unless we're biblically informed. So we try to let the authority be the authority.
Is this the church for you? We don't know. You won't know until you visit. Maybe a few times to get the rhythm and tone. We'll resist the urge to "sell" you on us. If we're doing anything right, the experience will speak better than we can. We're not the right church for everyone. But we're trying, imperfectly, to be a healthy church. We'd be honored if you'd join us.
