1. Why buy land now? Aren't we sort of new to buy land?
We are new. Only a year and a half. Yet in many ways we're more like an established church. Even in 2005, our first full year, we were 96% self-supporting. This year we're completely on our own. We finished 2005 strongly in the black. Land prices are only going up in the area. If we wait another year or two, we'll only find ourselves in the same, or probably more difficult position.
2. Are you saying we'll be building soon?
No. Not exactly soon. Buildings are very expensive, usually 7-10 times more than land (especially with that kitchen). We'll need some time to pay down the land, and develop more as a church. But land is a good first step. A good guess would have us moved into a completed building within 5 years.
3. Why so many acres? Wouldn't 10 or so be enough?
Good question. We originally were looking at 10-20 acres because our goal has never been to focus on numbers or build a huge church. I'd rather have a good church than a huge church. In our case, 24 opened up at an affordable price, so we think God must have some reason for it. We'd like to keep as much of the woods as possible, so that always requires extra acreage too.
4. How did you choose this location?
We limited it to Aurora/Streetsboro. We looked at where our people live, which areas are growing, where other churches are situated, where houses are being built, where land is affordable, and traffic patterns. We think we found the perfect spot. We think we had some divine help on all that...
5. How much will it cost?
See the special page on that.
6. Is there anything we can do on the land before we build?
Sure. Walk (Create a nature trail). Pray. Picnic (it's really a nice setting). Clean out dead brush and clear thickets. Pull down grape vines that are choking trees. Dream. Put a really nice sign up that tells the community we're coming. Invite them to walk the nature trail.
7. Can we see the land before voting on it?
Sure. We're doing a walk-through on Feb. 19 (not the 12th) after church at 1:30 (Shorts parking lot). We'll also take some video footage for those who don't want to tromp around in freezing weather. The member's meeting to vote on the purchase will be after church on the 26th of Feb.
