Cost of Land

Together the two parcels will cost $334,000. The monthly payment will be around $1700 each month, which represents a 10% increase over our current monthly budget. Just as a point of comparision, we received enough in January to cover our regular budget (which was already up 10% from the year before), plus an extra $1,000. And we haven't even really talked about the need for increased giving to acquire land. That's the good news.
The other news is that if we want to avoid significantly draining our savings, we all need to pull together to raise as much as we can toward the down payment of about $80,000. We have most of that (about 90% of the down payment) already in our savings. But we're asking for one-time donations in the next few weeks to raise enough to complete the down payment. We have about until mid-April to accomplish this, but would really like to see us all pitch-in in February to get it done.
Please consider prayerfully how your family might give toward this next step in the ministry of Tinkers Creek in the Aurora/Streetsboro area. Donations can be made toward the down payment by sending the church a check with "Land Fund" marked in the memo, or by placing the check in the Sunday Morning offering. It will be exciting to report the results in coming weeks!
Going forward in this way feels a bit risky and "faithy." That can be a very good thing for us. Keep in mind:
1) We are currently paying $3100/month for rented facilities. That can go up at any time. This is money that does not accumulate toward any assets or "home." So it's expensive to do nothing as well.
2) Land will not be cheaper later. On the contrary, as Streetsboro continues to develop we will likely see fairly rapid appreciation of choice land.
3) Buying land doesn't mean we "lose" the $80,000 down payment. We are moving it from liquid to non-liquid assets.
4) Our combination of two unusable parcels into 1 choice parcel will significantly increase both their values.
