Subject: A quick update on Saturday’s “Turkey” Bowl.
Tinker’s Creek Parents,
A quick update on Saturday’s “Turkey” Bowl.
We had an interesting discussion in YBF on Sunday. The issue of what was going to be done with the turkey after we were done with football was raised. Naturally it would be extremely tender and a little dirty so it would need to be thrown away. For this reason the youth group voted (by secret ballet) to donate the turkey rather than play with it. Corresponding funds will be donated to a local food drive for needy families in the area.
I guess to stick with the Turkey theme for football, the students will have to take turns dressing up as a turkey and being thrown around. ;) Other than that though, same time same place. Meet at the church office at 12:30pm and pick up at 5:00pm this Saturday.
Also, we are giving students the option to put together a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child with Samaritan’s Purse this year. This is something separate from the Turkey Bowl, but will take place on the same day for the sake of ease. We have told the students that want to participate in this, that we will drive and whoever is interested will all go shopping together at the dollar store in Streetsboro before we go to Camp for football. For those students if we could meet at the church office at 11:30am that would give us just under an hour to get our shopping done and make it back in time to leave at 12:30 for Camp. I won't be there for this part of it but both Mike Hirt and Jamie will be.
A few things to know. This will cost between $10-20, depending on what and how much you fit into your shoebox. For some this might be a little expensive, so we suggested that if they want to, several students can go together on one box. They will need to bring their own shoe boxes, and if you have an extra that would be great. We have a list of suggested items that we’ll pass out when we go shopping.
Jamie and I have done this for four years now and really enjoy doing it together. We’re going to cover the cost of shipping for the boxes so that the students can put more in their boxes. We also have all the wrapping paper we’ll need to wrap the shoeboxes. So let’s see how many boxes we can do.
Let me know if you have any questions.
