Subject: Oct Youth Group Event

Tinker's Creek Parents,

By now I'm sure you've all settled into your fall routines. I'm also sure by now you're tired of asking, "Have you done your homework yet?"

"I don't have any," is probably the most common response, though we all know better than that. Even though that's exactly what we told our parents on a beautiful fall weekend, only to 'remember' late Sunday night about the entire book we have to read for Monday.

Mark your calendar's for Sat Oct 22. We will be having a Youth Group Event doing paintball at Camp Carl. The youth group was key in helping me clear the field of trees and obstacles last spring, so that camp was ready for the summer. Even if your student didn't make it to the volunteer day they are more than welcome for that day. We will do lunch at camp which will cost $5 but the paintball is free. I know that this can be a controvercial issue and welcome any feedback on it. Let me know your concerns as well. Paintball is a relatively new sport (20 years) but Camp is up to date on all of the most current safety standars and has taken a series of steps to ensure everyone's safety, however, there are still inherant risks to any activity like this. Although, statistically you are significantly safer playing paintball than staying home. Take that for what it's worth, although to a certain extent it makes sense. Because of the risks of paintball it is a more restricted environement to keep those injuries from happening. All of the equipment that camp has is brand new this season and is well taken care (if I can say that because it's my responsibility). I'm still working out a few things and will let you know exact times when I find out. However, it will be around the lunch hour, either right before or right after it, you can plan on that.

Hopefully you've seen some of the pictures from the photo scavenger hunt that we kicked off Wednesday night youth group with. We let the kids take home any pictures that they wanted. I am also slowly but surely getting them on the website. If you go to the youth page there are a few pictures from each team already up. I am also working on getting together a group of students who can take over the website. At least this way they will be a little more productive with their time online, and it will for sure be more interesting to them. I asked how often they would check the youth site if it was updated consistently and most said several times a day. So we'll see.

Speaking of the church website, if you go to the website under the staff bio's section there is a link to Jamie and my website to help you get to know us a little better whenever you have time.

Wednesday nights are going well, we've been enjoying the great weather we've had and hope it continues. We continue to work our way through the ten commandments. Evaluating what the New Testament says about them and how they apply to us today.

We just finished our series on Jesus Christ in YBF. We read through the book "More than a carpenter" by Josh McDowell, who takes more of an investigative, factual look at the life of Christ. We're going to be starting a new series on the Holy Spirit next week. There is a lot of confusion about the roll of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Obviously with the faith healers that we see on TV and the health and wealth gospel, which will be a few of the issues that we look at.

I slowly get more parent email addresses from students, but if you know of others that aren't getting these or have spouces that aren't please send them to me and I'll add them to the list.

Thanks,

Kasey Parmelee
